Sadaqah is a voluntary form of charity given for the sake of Allah. It is not obligatory and can be given at any time, in any amount, by anyone.
Sadaqah may be given to support people in need, respond to emergencies, or contribute to ongoing charitable work.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Charity does not decrease wealth.”
Sahih Muslim (2588)
A small act can carry lasting impact. Sadaqah turns everyday generosity into a source of relief, dignity, and hope for someone else.
Sadaqah exists to make giving easy. It allows anyone to support those in need without calculation, deadlines, or minimum amounts. What matters is sincerity, not size.
Hence,
Narrated Umar ibn al-Khattab:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) commanded us one day to give sadaqah.
At that time I had some property. I said: Today I shall surpass AbuBakr if I surpass him any day.
I, therefore, brought half my property. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) asked: What did you leave for your family? I replied: The same amount.
AbuBakr brought all that he had with him. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) asked him: What did you leave for your family? He replied: I left Allah and His Apostle for them.
I said: I shall never compete you in anything.
